Root canal treatment is a treatment applied when the dental pulp is too damaged to repair itself. Pulp is a soft and living layer consisting of a package of vascular nerves and connective tissue located in the innermost part of the tooth. Usually, bacteria in broken teeth or deep caries cause inflammation of the pulp. If inflamed or damaged pulp is not removed, it will cause infection in the tooth and surrounding tissues. Pain, swelling and inflammation negatively affect general health and comfort of life.
To make the first stage of the treatment painless, the tooth is anesthetized. Then, the carious tissue is cleaned and the infected pulp is removed. All nerve and tissue residues in the root canal are cleaned and removed.
The canals are widened and shaped up to the root tip, and the canals are irrigated with appropriate solutions. If it is a root canal treatment that will take more than one session, healing is accelerated by placing appropriate medications in the canals and temporary fillings are placed on the tooth between sessions.
When healing is assured, the canals are filled with a special filling material up to the root tip. In this way, a lifeless but healthy tooth is obtained and this tooth can continue its function in the mouth.
